monade contemporary | 単子現代では、大石いずみ、Louise Schmid による展覧会「子どものころに l in memory of infancy」を開催します。
大石は、白黒のフィルム写真や手紙をもとに、光と陰、言葉によって記録された「事実として横たわる時間」の存在と描くことに向き合い、そこから記憶と対話するという行為を促す作品を制作してきました。写真の被写体のイメージは、蜜蝋や絵具が重ね合わされるうちに質料を獲得し、みずみずしさをもって生まれ直すかのようです。
Schmidは、日常の生活や風景を織りなす政治・社会状況と宗教や神話の影の間をつなぐメタフォリカルなイメージをドローイングとして表現してきました。懐かしさを感じさせる雰囲気と不思議な印象をもつモチーフは、いまここにある物事がかつてあった物事と分かちがたくあり、その戯れのなかで世界が生まれることを予感させます。
本展では、写真と絵画の呼応関係のなかから、ノスタルジーと現状の間で表象とは異なるかたちで想起されるメタファーの可能性を探ります。モノクロームの銀塩写真が歴史を代弁する記録となり、白黒のデジタルイメージが真実らしさを物語ろうとするなか、絵画は絵具というメディウムをとおして記録になる前の記憶の気配を示そうとします。写真に残されたイメージは絵具の塗り重ねをとおして、子どものような自由さと純粋さをもって幻想を触知可能な現実として出現させるかのようです。
現実の記録として支持体に焼き付けられたイメージが絵具というメディウムをまとうとき、真実として写された現実はどのような幻想を解放することになるのでしょうか。表象とメタファーの間で揺れ動く、イメージの幼年期にご参加ください。

大石いずみ
1997年、愛知県に生まれ。京都精華大学芸術学部造形学科洋画コース卒業。白黒のフィルム写真や手紙をもとに、光と陰、そして言葉によって記録された“事実として横たわる時間”の存在と描くことで向き合いながら、それらを通じて記憶と対話する行為を促す作品を目指す。主な展覧会は「Time in Thai 2」（2018 タイ）、「瀬戸内国際芸術祭2019」（2019香川・高見島）、「みることに触れる、描くことの現在」（2019 京都）、「Hazy prognosis」（2023 名古屋）など

Louise Schmid（ルイーズ・シュミット）
イギリス・グラスゴーを拠点とするビジュアルアーティスト。特にドローイングや紙を用いた作品に関心をもっている。近年の個展として、Galerie Rosenberg（チューリッヒ）、201 Phone Box Gallery（ストラスギネス、スコットランド）などがある。近年のレジデンスとして、京都のメトロポリタン・福寿創、パリのシテ・アンテルナショナル・デ・ザールなど。

monade contemporary | 単子現代 is pleased to present in memory of infancy, an exhibition by Izumi Oishi and Louise Schmid.
Oishi has long worked with black-and-white film photographs and letters to explore the existence of “time lying there as fact,” recorded through light, shadow, and words. Her practice invites viewers to engage in acts of memory and dialogue. Through layers of beeswax and paint, the photographic subjects gradually acquire materiality, as if reborn with a vivid presence.
Schmid has expressed, through drawing, metaphorical images that link the political and social conditions woven into everyday life and landscapes with the shadows of religion and mythology. These motifs, nostalgic and uncannily evocative at once, suggest that what exists here and now is inseparably connected to what once was, and that in their interplay, a world comes into being.
This exhibition explores metaphors that take shape beyond direct representation, tracing their emergence in the dialogue between photography and painting, a space suspended between nostalgia and the present. When monochrome gelatin silver photographs serve as records that speak for history, and black-and-white digital images narrate a sense of veracity, painting—through the medium of pigment—suggests traces of memory before it becomes a record. Through the layering of paint, the images preserved in photographs seem to make fantasy tangible, emerging with a freedom and purity reminiscent of infancy.
When an image, fixed onto a support as a record of reality, comes to be clothed in the medium of paint, what kind of fantasy might it liberate from the reality once captured as truth? Please participate in the infancy of images, which oscillate between representation and metaphor.

Izumi Oishi
Born in 1997 in Aichi, Japan. Graduated from the Western Painting Course, Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Art, Kyoto Seika University. Oishi creates works that begin with black-and-white film photography and personal letters, confronting the presence of “time lying there as fact,” recorded through light, shadow, and words. Through this process, her works invite acts of memory and dialogue. Selected exhibitions include Time in Thai 2 (2018, Thailand), Setouchi Triennale 2019 (2019, Takamijima, Kagawa), Touching Sight, the Present of Drawing (2019, Kyoto), and Hazy Prognosis (2023, Nagoya).
