建築的なヴォリューム（量塊）の知覚における光と闇の相互依存を探求しながら、紙の模型を写真で捉えたさまざまなシリーズに取り組んできました。作品《Topology》では、闇は意図的に「空間を生成する物質」として用いています。タイトルは空間の異なる点の間を移動することを示し、未知なるものに直面する移行状態を反映しています。それは秘匿されたものへの好奇心を呼び起こします。観者は一見アクセス可能に見えながらも、同時に遠く手の届かない、非物質的な光景に挑むことになります。
パフォーマンス《Pinnacles》と写真作品《Dawning》では、極地の浸食や変容の調査を風景の断片としての建築的な構造へと翻訳し、それらを現実の自然環境に配置します。両作品において紙の模型は、特定されない海景のなかで舞台化され、パフォーマティブに探究されます。パフォーマンスでは、沈みゆく氷山を直立させようとする詩的でありながら常に失敗に終わる試みを描いています。写真作品では、紙の模型とその崩壊を「取り戻せないもの」の象徴として捉えています——写真はユートピアとディストピアが交錯する仮説の記録者となるのです。

monade contemporary | 単子現代では、Martina Kändler による個展「not yet | まだなく」を開催します。
Kändlerはこれまで、光・空間・大気などを装置として、地理的な変容や社会・政治・自然の複雑な相互作用を芸術作品において探究してきました。パフォーマンス、映像、写真、彫刻的アプローチを組み合わせ、空間における運動や対象の変容のダイナミクスを考察しながらつくられるイメージや形態は、身近に知覚されるものが想像を超えた世界の運動につながっていることを体感させてくれるかのようです。
本展では、紙の模型を写真で捉えた一連の作品群を紹介し、Kändlerが探求する建築的なヴォリューム（量塊）を知覚することでとらえられる光と闇の相互依存的な関係にアプローチします。おぼろげに光を反射しながら姿を変える紙の模型は、暗闇や海の風景を背景として未来の不在を両義的に浮かび上がらせます。
目の前にあるものごとが知覚され、人を取り巻く状況の移ろいとしてとらえられるとき、どのような世界がその不在において姿を現すのでしょうか。ユートピアとディストピアがせめぎ合う、来たるべき未来にご参加ください。
Martina Kändler（マルティナ・ケンドラー）
ミュンヘン在住。ニュルンベルク美術アカデミー卒業、アウグスブルク大学美術教育・美術史・心理学修士課程修了。光・空間・大気などを装置として、地理的な変容や社会・政治・自然の複雑な相互作用を芸術作品において探究している。パフォーマンス、映像、写真、彫刻的アプローチを組み合わせ、空間における運動や対象の変容のダイナミクスを考察し、そのプロセスが及ぼす環境への影響や大気の知覚に対する変化に関心を寄せている。

Exploring the interdependence of light and darkness in the perception of architectural volumes, Martina Kändler has worked on various series of photographically captured paper models.
In the work “topology” darkness is deployed purposefully as a space-generating matter. The title reflects movement between different points in space, it reflects being in a transition that implies facing the uncharted. It introduces a form of curiosity for the secretive. The spectator is challenged by a scene that is seemingly accessible but at the same time stays distant and intangible.
In the performance “pinnacles” and in the photographic project “dawning”, she translates her investigations of the polar region, its erosion and transformation into fragments of landscapes, into built structures that are arranged in real natural spaces. In both these works, the paper models are staged and performatively explored in a non-specific seascape. The performance depicts the poetic yet perpetually failed attempt to upright sinking icebergs. The photographic project captures the paper models and their decay as a symbol of the irretrievable – photography becomes the documentarist of a hypothesis in which utopia and dystopia merge.

monade contemporary | 単子現代 is pleased to present not yet | まだなく, a solo exhibition by Martina Kändler.
Kändler has explored geographical transformations and the complex interactions of society, politics, and nature by working with dispositions of light, space, and atmosphere as operative devices. Combining performative, video, photographic, and sculptural approaches, she has been developed works that investigate the dynamics of movement and transformation of objects in space. These images and forms convey a sense that what is perceived in our immediate surroundings is connected to movements of a world that exceeds imagination.
This exhibition introduces a series of paper models captured photographically, approaching the interdependent relationship of light and darkness as it is perceived through architectural volumes. The paper models, shifting in form while faintly reflecting light, appear set within scenes of darkness or seascapes, ambiguously evoking the absence of a future.
What vision of a world reveals itself in such absence, when what lies before us is perceived as a transient situation surrounding us? Please participate in a future yet to come, where utopia and dystopia collide.
Martina Kändler
Based in Munich. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg, and completed a master’s program in Art Education, Art History, and Psychology at the University of Augsburg. Within dispositions of light, space, and atmosphere, the artist explores in her artistic work geographical transformations and the complex interactions between society, politics, and nature.
